Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that investigates representations of women in the popular media narratives. Sarkeesian has a degree in social thought and politics from York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements at a young stage of her life. When she graduated in 2009, in university, she created the Feminist Frequency site. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s determined to make a series of web videos which would explore how gender is represented in video games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. The attack wasn't enough to deter her. Instead, it made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critic. She has won numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media critic. She is also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies pop culture gender representations.
