
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American actress and performer who toured for more than 40 years. London is a torch singer loved for her soft, mellow vocals and languid contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River", a song she premiered in her debut album. London was nominated in 1974 to the Golden Globe Award as a actor for her role in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year career in acting began in the film industry in 1944 which included roles for female leads in a variety of westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the beginning of her professional career as a musician. Her final studio album in 1969 but achieved continuing success playing the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) where she co-starred with husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
